About our school dresses

Our school dresses are the classic primary school dresses worn across Kenya: an A-line cut, short sleeves, a crisp white collar and a back zip. Primary school dresses often feature checkered patterns or solid colours, so we stock both — blue-and-white and red-and-white gingham, and plain royal blue and green — in sizes 22 to 40, from KSh 650.

Our school dresses

All our dresses are made in one classic style, available in four colourways:

  • Blue-and-white gingham check — the most widely used pattern for dresses in Kenya.
  • Red-and-white gingham check — popular with many public and private primary schools.
  • Royal blue — a solid colour often worn with a navy or royal blue sweater.
  • Green — a solid colour that matches green school sweaters.

Why parents like our school dresses

  • Crisp white collar that stays neat.
  • A-line cut that is comfortable for sitting, playing and running.
  • Back zip for easy dressing.
  • Deep hem that can be let down as girls grow, so dresses last longer.
  • Colour-fast fabric that keeps checks crisp and whites white.

Choosing the right size

School dresses come in sizes 22 to 40, close to the chest measurement in inches. As a guide, pre-primary and Grades 1–2 usually wear 22–26, Grades 3–6 wear 28–32, and older girls 34–40. Most schools want dresses to end just below the knee. If your daughter is tall for her age, choose the size that fits her chest and let down the hem, or go up a size. Our uniform size guide explains how to measure.

Matching school dresses to your school

Many schools use a gingham check in a particular colour. If yours uses a check we do not stock — such as green-and-white, yellow-and-white, purple-and-white or a tartan — send us a photo on WhatsApp. For bulk school orders we can usually match it. We can also supply school dresses with a sash or belt where the school design includes one.

What to wear with school dresses

School dresses are usually worn with a school sweater in a matching colour, school socks and black school shoes. On cold days, add a school marvin and fleece jacket.

How many school dresses?

Two dresses per child usually works for day scholars — one to wear and one in the wash. If your daughter is in boarding school or plays hard, three is safer.

Caring for school dresses

Close the zip, wash in cool or warm water with similar colours, avoid bleach, hang to dry and iron the collar first on a medium setting.

Bulk school dresses

We supply dresses to schools across Kenya, packed by class and size. See our bulk school uniforms page for how it works.

Gingham, plain and seasonal changes

Many primary schools use gingham school dresses as their main uniform because the check pattern hides small marks between washes and looks bright and cheerful. Solid royal blue and green school dresses are popular where the school wants a simpler look or uses a plain colour throughout the uniform. Some schools also switch between a short-sleeve dress in hot terms and a dress worn with a long-sleeve blouse or sweater in the cold season.

Whatever style your school uses, girls need a dress that lets them move freely: sitting on the floor for story time, running at break and taking part in games. The A-line cut of our school dresses gives that freedom while keeping a neat, modest shape.

Planning for a growing daughter

Girls in lower primary can grow a full size in a single year. Buying the size that fits now and letting down the hem through the year usually gives the best value. Before the next school year, measure again and move up a size if the chest or shoulders feel tight, even if the length is still fine.

Older girls in upper primary may prefer a slightly longer length and a little more room across the shoulders. Measure at the start of each year, and if your daughter is between sizes, choose the larger one and adjust the hem. Name labels sewn into the collar help prevent mix-ups during games and swimming lessons.
